In situ treatment

Sanexen has conducted a large number of in situ remediation projects to date, using several proven and innovative technologies.

To name just a few treatment processes we have used :

• Elimination of gasoline by forced aeration (sparging), extraction of volatile compounds and catalytic oxidation.

• Injection of a bacterial consortium in coarse-gained soils contaminated by light hydrocarbons.

• Chemical oxidation of petroleum hydrocarbons.

• Steam injection and multi-phase extraction to remove heavy fuel oil from fractured rock.

• Recovery by pumping of chlorinated solvents present as dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPL), including installation of a Waterloo-type barrier. Largest DNAPL project performed in Canada to date.

• Control of off-site migration of heavier-than-water contaminants (TCE, DCE) by pumping, treatment and injection of additives to biodegrade the contaminants.

• Multi-phase extraction and biotreatment to eliminate furnace fuel oil at a depth of 20 m in a densely built urban area.

• Washing of coarse-grained soil by circulation of warm water to remove hydrocarbons and metals.

• Volatilisation and extraction of PCE present as DNAPL beneath a building.

Among the projects completed by Sanexen, certain problems have involved a research and development component, for which Sanexen is well recognised.

Sanexen's personnel possess a solid experience in the development of remediation strategies and the establishment of efficient treatment systems. The technical approach selected attains the desired remediation objectives within the planned financial frameworks and timetables. Sanexen doesn't sell one technology, but rather, offers abest in situ solution to each of its clients for the particular environmental problem on individual site.
